A month of achievements in Alabama business

The Public Affairs, Community Relations and Institutional Advancement Department of Calhoun Community College received 13 awards at the Alabama Community College System Public Relations Association annual conference.

Auburn University at Montgomery’s College of Education graduates performed well above the state average on two components of the Alabama Educator Certificate Assessment Program, with 100 percent passing the Principles of Learning and Teaching test component and 89 percent passing the Multiple Subjects portion. The state average pass rate is 94 and 82 percent, respectively.

Auburn University at Montgomery was ranked no. 22 for the quality of its undergraduate teaching program and 38th among public institutions by U.S. News & World Report in its annual survey of the nation’s best educational institutions. AUM’s College of Business was also ranked among the business schools nationally.

BauerFinancial Inc. has affirmed Avadian Credit Union’s five-star rating for financial strength and stability, its highest rating. Avadian has earned and maintained the five-star rating for 41 consecutive quarters.

Big Communication has been honored with a Clio award, one of the premier national advertising awards. Big, based in Birmingham, took honors for its part in a major Valvoline campaign.

Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP has been named the Product Liability Firm of the Year by the LMG Life Sciences Awards 2018. In addition, the firm has been ranked at no. three for the South Region in the American Bar Association Health Law Section’s Sixth Annual Regional Law Firm Recognition List.

Essity has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. Essity employs 500 at its Barton paper and converting plant in Cherokee.

NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center recently presented its Industry & Advocate Awards for 2018. Aerojet Rocketdyne, of California, was named Marshall’s Large Business Prime Contractor of the Year and the Mentor-Protégé Agreement of the Year. MTS of Huntsville was named Marshall’s Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year. Kord Technologies, of Huntsville, was named the Small Business Subcontractor of the Year, and the Small Business Prime Contractor Excellence Award went to Cepeda Systems & Software Analysis of Huntsville. Small Business Subcontractor Excellence Awards were presented to Alabama A&M University, Seabrook Solutions LLC, TriVector Services Inc. and Waterfront Technical Services, all of Huntsville; KT Engineering of Madison, Houston Precision Fasteners of Houston, United Precision Corp. of California and Yang Enterprises of Florida.

PSMJ Resources Inc. has recognized Brasfield & Gorrie with the Premier Award for Client Satisfaction.

Samford University’s Journalism and Mass Communication major was named the top journalism program in Alabama for a fourth consecutive year by College Factual. The program also was named the 35th best program nationally, up from its ranking of no. 54 last year.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham has achieved record enrollment for a third consecutive year, growing its student body to 21,923, an increase of 1,021 students over last year’s enrollment.

The University of North Alabama has its largest fall enrollment in the school’s 188-year history with a total fall enrollment of more than 7,600 students.

Wilkins Miller, with offices in Mobile and Fairhope, has been named one of the 2018 Best Accounting Firms to Work for by Accounting Today for a fourth consecutive year.

The YMCA of Central Alabama AmeriCorps of Birmingham has been named the 2018 Outstanding Service Program by America’s Service Commissions Innovation and Leadership Award program.
